it is a school, argosy university, ground and online undergrad to masters and doctoral. Main campus in phoenix, online run out of arizona and pennsylvania university . Am told "usually people who receive calls have at some point expressed interest in furthering their education, most likely via an online form of some sort..." in response by a super sweet guy to my inquiry as to how people may hear of them and how they do their recruitment. Not part of the admissions department he gave me the answer in quotations....which only after he shared with me did I tell him I had in fact at some point expressed interest online and thought I had called a 480 number to ask to be removed from the list but he reminded me their are like five other large schools operating out of the same area code, also true.
Anyway I told him at the gate I was trying to ascertain from where the number came and that a few other people were as well and that I was sharing this information as to who is calling, how it is we might be receiving said calls, to which I can attest, and his advice if removal is desired is to simply let them know. I was kind of kibbitzing with him but I got the idea from nastoids using unpleasant practices who shared their tactics on this site and said, "ok, now you aren't really writing something like, 'almost there, this side of the fence, just the slightest breeze and she's ours' sort of thing are you/" and he laughed and swore no way, besides he appreciated how nice I was. I told him no way I could be upset, I signed up, your people are doing what they are paid to do which is exactly that which I requested be done. How could anyone be upset let alone with you folks when people such as I requested information. He said, "Oh my gosh, I wish other callers felt like that, you wouldn't believe how hostile some become..." Guy was so super sweet. Of course I'll report back if the calls don't stop. However I'm thinking I believe him.
I just got a call from this number and didn't answer it. I've never once expressed any interest in schools via a form, etc. I have my master's already. However, I did just switch my phone to Cox Cable. I wonder if Cox is giving out details to telemarketers about my internet browsing history? Because I work for a for-profit school and have looked up information (snow closing days) on their website, just never asked anyone for a call. I am wondering if I should cancel Cox phone--we are on the national no-call registry and have complained about all the telemarketers to Cox, but they never let on that they sell customer's numbers. Plus, they charge a lot for unlisted numbers. I don't want to have to pay them a bunch of money just to get them to stop giving out my number, that's extortion.
I filled out a survey, for a free coupon. That's how they got my number. Have received many calls from others. this uses up my minutes. Never received the coupon.
