RENTAL SCAM - Do not send any personal info!!
I sent email in response to house for rent on Craig's list. Some things in the response left me feeling not so sure so I searched property records and person sending is email is in fact NOT the home owner. So I searched phone number listed in email and saw that it is in fact a rental scam. Similar emails sent to others, with minor changes including senders name.
Email I received:
Hello,
Thanks for your interest regarding my house, yes the house is available for rent and ready for move in. i have decided to rent the house because we are going to spend more time here in virginia. My family and I will be here for about 5 years due to the nature of my job international followers of the Christian faith. Let me start by introducing myself, i must confess I am very new in this landlord business. However, I own the house located at 9612 Helena Avenue, Montclair CA 91763. 4bed, 3full bath, 2,151 sqft Single-Family Home.
The rent is $1200 and move-in cost security deposit is $1000
NB: You can drive by the home to see its exterior and it's neighborhood and get back to me for further discussion, any sign post will be removed once i get any responsible tenant so you ignore the sign post and don't bother to contact the agents there for any reason, cause i don’t have any agreement with them anymore . As soon as you do so and if you like the location, get back to me for every other necessary detail to complete the rent and application.
So pls get back to me today.
I await your reply ASAP.
The rental fee is inclusive with utilities and my home is available as at this moment.
