I told him that I was at work and couldn't talk about it. He got pushier and kept telling me it would take just a minute longer. The package amounts kept changing too. He started big and then got smaller when I said that I needed to receive something in the mail before I committed to donating anything. That threw him off.
The call came in showing that it was a call from Phoenix. Uncharacteristically, I answered the call. The individual started reading his script and emphasized that the funds were for the families of those killed in the line of duty. When I asked for his name and the organization's address, he faultered. He immediately stated that I could make my donation online. The called was obviously attempting to "deepen" their voice... probably to sound more authoritative...
I got the same call from AZFOP (seemingly) asking for donations. It started with - we will mail you a kit with info - okay. Then I was transferred to the "Records Department" where I was asked to provide info and donate before being mailed a kit - not okay. I asked how much would go towards the families - the caller did not know. I asked what the online website was, the caller fumbled, looked it up online, and gave it to me. Seems scamy to me.
Got the call as well. The voice seemed very authorative, indeed. I hung up in the middle of the Records Dept. transfer and then blocked the caller from my phone.
