The number belongs to the Arizona State University 'Student Foundation'. I received a call from this number, as well as an email soliciting my interest in "things happening at ASU". I am neither a student or an alumni... but discovered that someone created an online ASU Sun Devils account, using my email address. I don't even know anyone at ASU (students, faculty, or alumni) and am not a 'Sun Devils' fan. So, don't know who created the account or why.
What I do know is that both the email and the call(s) are intended to prompt interest in donating to the college to support whatever programs. Since the call was blocked by my phone app and I forwarded the unsolicited email to the FTC as SPAM, I didn't bother to check to see what the funds were being solicited to support. My personal opinion is that, given the high costs associated with attending a college/university, they receive more than enough money as it is from the students, state/federal funds, and private donations from businesses and alumni. To solicit donations from someone who has NO prior association with ASU is both asinine and, in my case, potentially a case of attempted identity theft and fraud (since someone used/is using my email address to set up online accounts without my knowledge or authorization.
