I'm so glad I have read these. I signed up at several booths at a Boat, Tackle and RV show in Hot Springs, AR on Saturday and they are calling me on Wednesday. They asked if I was Jackie (last name) when I answered the phone, before I replied yes I asked who they were with they would not tell me. I thought right away this is a scam.. when he hung up cause I would not tell him what he wanted. I called the number back and got a recording about a reservations line. I know next time when they call who they are and what they want.. maybe I could keep them on the phone and make their job miserable...
It is Direct Buy in Little Rock. I signed up out of interest, then was told to come to a workshop/seminar. On further exploration, I found that Direct Buy charges a very high "membership fee" and decided against joining or even showing up for the workshop, and told them that the very next day. Since then, I've received a few calls, one that asked me to reconsider and why wasn't I interested? Then another, just now, which had no voice at the end of the line, but just hung up on me after I said Hello three times. I called them back at the listed store number and their receptionist told me she'd put me on the "do not call" list. This just tells me my initial impression of Direct Buy was on target - don't do business with them, they are rude and only want your membership fee. There are scores of negative stories about them on the net and I should have done more research before signing up "out of interest."
The same thing happened to me. One time I answered the call, but I didn't say anything.. I just listened... A very rude woman on the line was laughing and saying, "Aww.... so Mrs. ____, you're not going to pick up the phone today.. ha ha ha... Not taking any calls, huh?" (or something to that effect.)
I got the feeling she was laughing at me personally because she thought I was too stupid to realize they were trying to scam me. I have been getting similar calls from them for 4 months... They also change phone numbers and start all over again... If you ever show them you are even slighltly interested in finding out what they are selling, they never stop hounding you.
I received mail today stating " Congratulations Our promotional department shows that you have been awarded a New Android Tablet complete with new software" and by responding within 72 hours I will receive a $100 restaurant dining card. and to call 501-223-9719. No where does it give a company name. A new approach for Direct Buy, but RED FLAG when company will not give NAME and ADDRESS
