One is legal. When you reply to get the card you subscribe to some expensive, worthless service. It takes months to cancel it. They send you the card, but you end up spending more on the service than the gift card is worth.
The other one is illegal. They talk you into giving them your credit card number for identification or to pay for shipping charges. They use the number to buy stuff in your name. They never send you the card.
