I finally got someone to talk. This number is associated with Choice Hotels and they are trying to give away 3 day stays at various locations. One of the towns was Peoria, Illinois. I told the lady that Peoria was a real arm pit of a town and to take me off her list. She said that Choice hotels would no longer call me. We'll see....
I suspect that the calls aren't even from Choice Hotels. I say that based on the fact that I received a call similar in nature that claimed to be from another chain.
This number is used for a variety of scams and frauds. The latest is derived from customers filling out a contest entry form in a Bass Pro Shops store, allegedly for a $25,000 Bass Pro shopping spree. This a fraudulent come-on, which is in fact allowing your personal data to be sold by Bass Pro to Bluegreen Vacations in Boca Raton, FL, that has a tie-line at (501) 475-3610. What occurs is relentless fraudulent marketing by Bluegreen for you to undertake a "free" vacation with them, maybe to look at time shares, but which involves your paying a huge list of fees up front, these fees totaling the full cost of airfare, hotel, rental car, etc., etc., and added fees. It is all a stinking, shameless fraud, related to the "you have won a free cruise" scammers, who want $600-$800 in port fees and taxes paid up front for something which will never be fulfilled. I always thought Bass Pro Shops was a decent, ethical business, but I will never do business with them again. I complained to the manager of my local Bass Pro and he alleged it was all driven by corporate. Shame on them for being party to a stinking fraud and scam!
