Received a text message purporting to be from "The Credit Union Center" (from phone number 502-751-2867) with an "ALERT: Your VISA Debit/Card has been temporarily frozen. Please call 502-498-5006." Knowing what was going on, I called my credit union to let them know this scam was out. The branch manager said if I wanted to hang on a minute, she'd call the number and see what happened. Sure enough, they first ask if you received a text message, press one. Then if you want to reactivate your credit card, (and here's the key, folks, that will ALWAYS tell you it's a scam!) "Please enter the 16 digits of your credit card." Branch manager came back on the line to tell me what happened and said she'd be sending a mass emailing out to all their employees to let them know it's going around and that some of their people may get into trouble, to be alert. So heads up! :-)
Better Business Bureau in Louisville received a call today from a consumer reporting the exact same experience as reported above. Definitely a scam attempt.
