I just received a call from this number. Same man's voice that recently called me from 251-288-5223. The man states that he just received a fax order pertaining to a civil matter he also states that he had been retained to serve papers to my home or work. He left a case number and stated that I could call if I had concerns or wanted to resolve the matter before being taken to court. The call ends with "You have officially been notified" This is a scam, no process server ever calls to warn you that you are going to be served.

I just received a call from, 1-504-535-5879 'advising' me that charges had been filed against (Angela) because someone had stolen her identity -complete with a case number and everything.  I know it's a scam but called back just out of curiosity; got an auto-recording (again) 'advising' me that the call made be recorded; then a human-male voice told me I'd be transferred; on hold again then the same voice came back and ask if he could "help" me.   I told him (the same as above) and he ask me if I was calling from a cell phone or landline.  Of course I didn't respond to the irrelevant question but ask him why someone from Louisiana was calling half-way across the US to tell 'Angela' they've had summons' filed against them.  It was a rhetorical question so I didn't wait for an answer but added something I won't repeat here.  Of course this is a scam.  I previously received a call from a 1-555-... area code (which other commenters on the net said) is a "made--up number" used in Hollywood films since the 50's.  But the 504 area code is legit and it appears that a few people are using A LOT of different numbers from this area of a lot of people are involved, also using many different numbers to ply their obvious scam.

How stupid do they think people are?!  No one even calls a non-local county about such business let alone another state!
My suggestion is to file complaints with (you can do this online) the Federal Communications Commission and both, your state's Attorney General (AG) AND the Louisiana AG where these are coming from; and file police reports in both states as well.  I'm pretty sure you can file with the Police Departments (PD) online as well as long as you do it within 30 days of the incident -otherwise you have to file it in person at the PD .  I looked up, "Is legal misrepresentation by telephone a crime in the US" and got the best answer on Wikipedia.  Another search found that It's not a criminal but a civil offense and is actionable in court by the victim (or the harassed).  Whether you're harmed or not you're being harassed and the respective agencies WILL shut them down.  Take a few minutes and file complaints with the authorities listed above.  At least it will stop the annoying calls ...until someone comes up with a new scam.  How are they getting cell phone numbers anyway -calling them randomly?

If both the AG's and the police get enough complaints they can easily identify the perpetrators and nip this spanking new scam in the bud.

I have been getting this call for three days. I called back and told them to take me off their calling list. The lady said ok and hung up. I know it was a scam because they used my maiden name and they called me on a phone that is under another person name, so how did they reach me there. Anyway it's a big scam
