This is a landline call that came through Onvoy, which appears online to be a legit business, but it is a company that routes calls changing the number to make it look like a local call. I didn't talk to them and they didn't leave a voicemail. Onvoy is located at 10300 6th Ave N, Plymouth, Minnesota, a suburb west of Minneapolis. According to what I found on the web, this is a fundraising scam. If you get a call by this means it will appear to come from your area code. There is no way to find the originating "company" because Onvoy is simply a router providing a service for the scammer by hiding their number and location. A local Foundation of which I'm a member here had their number "spoofed" earlier his week, so it may be that the originator (or Onvoy) has hacked their database and now has the number of every member. Never give anything (info or money) to a phone call, even if you think you know who it is because you really don't know who it is. Seems to me that Onvoy should be shut down. A business whose service is lying should not be in business.
Called and asked for me by name. Said he was calling from Disabled Veterans of America. Asked him why the caller ID said he was calling from Hobbs, New Mexico and not Disabled Veterans. He then hung up.
Looked up Disabled Veterans and 505-738-8552 on Google. There appears to be no such number. It seems like a scam.
I also was called about donations to Disabled Veterans of America-while I was volunteering at the local VA Hospital. He thanked me for that, then persisted on asking for cash donations. Said, "How about we put you down for the minimum donation, $15 a month." This is NOT how veterans organizations operate. Please deal directly with your local veterans organizations to help our current and former solders, sailors, and airmen, and hang up on these parasites.
Boyfriend received a call from this number yesterday. They identified themselves as the Disabled Veterans of America and when the person on the other end started his spiel, he said he was not interested and hung up. Starting to have more calls received on our cell phones.
