It's the Barnstable Deputy Sheriff's Dept.

They call seeking charitable contributions to support the NON-PROFIT Barnstable County Dep. Sheriff's Youth's Ranch, often referred to as the "Youth Ranch" or "Sheriff's Boot Camp."

The number is a call-out number, but you might get a message with different call-back number.

I asked about the "Caller-ID" and its a phone company mistake.  They also have problems where ID says "Coastguard".  They didn't even know about the "POLICE PI" until I mentioned it.

Their new policy is only to call BUSINESSES because residences freak out if they see "Police" anything.  lol

That's how they contacted this poster, via our business line.
(Its a law office and real estate broker-- See, RealtyEsquire.com)
Its the BEST WAY TO BUY REAL ESTATE on Cape Cod. (In case you're interested)

We donate to local charities so get these type of calls all the time.

To verify or confirm the integrity and legitimacy of the calls and the organization, they have a contact for the public:
If any questions call:  Dep. Robert Dylan 508-375-6042

Residences are getting called from a different line: (508)771-0899
That's the PAL (Police Athletic League) a Youth Program in Falmouth

Barnstable County Deputy Sheriff's Dept. Youth Programs:

There are three or more programs they run:
Boot Camp: helps troubled teens by giving them pride, discipline and showing them the power of love and respect through hard 'military-like' work they can feel good to have accomplished.

Bars program:  It's like the "Scared Straight" program (popular movie/documentary), allows kids to visit inmates, interview prisioners, see the corrections facilities, etc.

Criminal Justice Academy:  Guidance and support for career-minded high school students interested in this field.

NOTE:  In Massachusetts, a Sheriff or Deputy Sheriff is different from a police officer.  In fact, the two departments rarely communicate,  work together, or even share information.

Typically, a Sheriff's office deals with enforcing COURT ORDERS. This includes all CIVIL matters (something a police officer would never touch.)  Also, you'll never be pulled over for speeding or anything like that from a Sheriff.

Certainly, they serve other law enforcement functions, usually tied to the Court system -- Enforce Court Orders, transport prisoners, bring CIVIL witnesses or parties to Court if they disobey a lawyer's witness subpoena--
Dep. Sheriff's Dept. often serves as liason between landlord and tenant when landlord wins eviction judgment in court.  Here, the Sheriffs try to work with tenants to allow them a chance to move out voluntarily and with less trouble and further expense to tenant.
They also serve process, enforce judgments, etc.
They may also take possession (liens and executions) of assets and hold Sheriff Auctions to satisfy money judgments.

Hope this resolves most of your questions and concerns.

Annoying as hell - they call at least 10 times a year.I will never give them anything because of the nuisance factor they create.
