This is a load of BS. I build websites for people and these morons from the "Legal Investigations Unit" (with the THICK Indian Accents) are calling a number listed in the "Whois" directory for the website of one of my clients. For those who aren't aware, the "Whois" directory lists the owner of a domain, their address, phone number and email address so that if someone has to make contact about the domain for some reason, there is a way to do so. It's like a phone book. If you want your info to be unlisted you have to pay an extra fee to a proxy service, yearly, and they provide an address, phone number and email for someone to call When you contact the proxy service, they will then contact the owner of the domain with the info.
I encourage my clients to use the proxy but if they don't want to, I tell them to get a P.O. Box and use internet voice mail to avoid giving SCAM ARTISTS access to personal info. This actually costs more than the proxy but some clients don't want to rely on the proxy service, they want direct control and they want immediacy.
My assumption here is that these imbeciles troll the "Whois" and make random calls. I could be wrong since they aren't using the registrants name, but it seems to me that this is complete BS. The calls are also so vague as to be laughable.
They have been calling over and over every other week from.different call centers because I hear the noise of a bunch of callers in the back and what makes it even more irritating they barely speak english.
Hi I have been getting calls from the number listed above. It isa scam my Dad is a judge, he looked into this, when my Dad called him and started asking for their, fax number and explaining the law. They hung up on him. I have not got a call in three months, until today he said to me blow me a kiss and he is going to come to my house and have sex with me. I hung up, scam and I still report it to the police.
I think this is a total scam. This guy who could barely speak any English left me a voice mail saying he's from the "legal investigations department". There was also a lot of background noise and I could barely make out what he was saying (has a REALLY thick accent). I was suspicious the minute I heard it, when he doesn't say what the call is regarding , what company he is from, or give any specific information. Anyone legitimate would identify themselves, and give some business ID. He said that it's "extremely time sensitive" and I have to call him back the minute I get the message. Just for kicks, I tried calling this number back, but each time I did, it would just beep and cut me off--doesn't even have a voice mail system. I call scam! So something is that time sensitive and urgent, yet I can't even leave a voice mail so he can get a hold of me? I even called my local police department on this. They can't really go after these people when I didn't give them any money, so no real crime has been committed, but I followed their suggestion to just block their number. SCAM!
