SCAM!!! They called me and claimed that there were charges pressed against me and that the police were going to show up at my house tomorrow and charge me with bank fraud unless I paid the debt back. When I told them that they had to contact my lawyer, they started yelling at me over the phone and refused to take his information. Like I said...SCAM!

this number keeps calling and said that there is a legal investgation going on concerning my social security number. they call at least once a day. i never answer the phone. they leave a voice mail message. it is the same person that is calling all the time. this has been going on for months and each time he says that " this will be the last call you receive from me" but yet continues to call
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
i have received sevedral calls from this number 508-969-2465 tell me there is a law suit against my social security number. The person is very hard to understand a very thick accent. when you start asking questions they put u on hold then hang up on you. they will not tell you the companys name who they work for. They keep asking for your social security number, i tell them ( you called me you tell me what it is) and they hang up again
This 508-969-2465 called my cell phone and they had my my name and my employer and the phone number to my work place. They said they called and my work place said I wasnt in. I called my work and they said they hadnt heard anything. Can bill collectors call your work?? I dont think they can. Well this indian sounding guy had my name my cell number my work place and a actual place I owe money to. But that info is easy for them to look up right?? Any suggestions?? Is it still the same scam??
