I received a call (caller I.D. 509-774-0297) between 8am and 9am on Sat. 25 April 2009. The "recorded" voice stated my account was going to be shut down immediately if I did not pay (the fact is my account was ONLY 2 weeks past due)by charge or debit or by pressing the #4 option, within 2 days by cash.
Fact: I have an account I opened in August 2000 that has very favorable terms (free night calling beginning at 8:01pm rather than the current 9:01pm, and a fairly low rate). Verizon would love to get people to drop these old plans because of the "60 minutes x 30 days" they do not get to charge to your account.
I went to the Verizon Store located at N.6227 Division in Spokane, WA and spoke to the Manager. He assured me that "Verizon does not call until an account is 60 days past due after a 30 day written notice..." I stated my concerns regarding the call and the demand for a credit card payment over the phone. He checked the number and said that it was not "Verizon business phone number... and surmised that it might be a scam..." AFTER he checked the number on his computer. So be careful.
Further, I went to www.whocalledus.com a little while ago and discovered that it is a land line # at White Salmon WA in Klickitat County.I was not willing to pay for further details.
I have received calls from this number several times too. I haven't had any voice mails...and I have missed all of the calls...but they keep calling me.
