SFE Energy telemarketing to sell alternative natural gas supply.
They call about once a week from a different number each time, and a slightly different sales pitch.
A "Mr. Boatwright" introduced himself and asked to speak with the person that pays the PG&E bill.
When I asked who was calling he continued with his script saying he was calling about the price protection energy savings program that I should have received information about.
When he 'implied' that he was calling for PG&E I called him out and insisted to know what company he was calling for, and he finally said SFE Energy. I never found out if he actually works for SFE or for a marketing contractor - but when I explained that I wanted to know as part of the file I am building in order to file a FTC complaint against them for repeated failure to remove my number from their call list or put me on their internal do not call list - he said he would submit my number to their internal do-not-call list. We will see - I bet they keep calling.
SFE Energy is a legitimate supplier of natural gas under the California Energy Choice program - but their marketing spills over into illegal abuse of telemarketing rules.
As there are no other reports for this number, and there are prior personal users of the number - they may be spoofing someones phone number or hiring work-from-home shills for the marketing.
I too appreciate the info from Bill. Keep getting calls like this from different numbers but guess they are mostly these irritating energy companies (or frauds) and I have told them on numerous occasions I am not interested but they keep bothering me. Some come to my door and are very rude, give me no information , just want to see my PG&E bill and get personal info from me. I do believe a lot of these people are not legit.
They may be getting your information from your utility company. You probably have to "opt-out" of these types of calls. I would either call them up or go to their website and check to see if there is a way to stop the calls. I would also report the calls you your state Public Utility Commission and/or your State Attorney General. They are required to stop calling when told to do so. As to whether they are violating any other laws would depend on how the state laws were written.
