I received a call from impact mediation about a pay day loan that i took out in 2010. I know that i have taken out a few loans, i didn't take them serious. A week later i was served with a summons to appear. I know that i can't go to jail, but the county said that if i didn't pay my fees and not show up, i will be held contempt..And now i have a judgement in my name and ss..
Group calling itself Impact Mediation contacted me yesterday under a 210 number. Advised they were working with a company namef Global Group Holdings to collect on a past due (from 2008) payday loan. Legal action threatened but giving me the opportunity to pay up.
I just got a call from this number. The person asked for my son and asked if I could get a message to him. Same as above, Impact Mediation. I have an app on my phone that automatically records all calls so I have it saved. They asked if I was a relative and verified my name. She said her name was Mrs. Lyons. There are some "serious allegations" that he needs to be involved in. Supposedly this is their direct phone number.
You have been contacted by criminals masquerading as debt collectors. The idea is to create a panic and to have your son call back so that they can scare him into paying an extortion fee. There are no "serious allegations" If he does owe someone money, it is simply that, nothing criminal. Use the following to inform you son of his rights and to make complaints on their criminal activities to the proper agencies:
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Called saying legal matter that needed my immediate attention and could be served at home or work place. Or could face legal problems if I continue to elude. I asked them to mail me something and the response was that this matter is past that point.
It is a scam. Got called from 320-318-4084 says I have a debt which was not true and that I must call 5126462273 to resolve it otherwise they will blahblahblah. Checked online references it's a scam many people were harassed. Blocked both calls.
