Caller said he was from the IRS and wanted to provide a cash remittance for being a good citizen. I just needed to give him a bank account number for the transfer.

Caller, with a heavy mid-east accent, said he was from the Treasury Dept. and was going to send me a $ 8500.00 payment because I never filed for Bankruptcy and paid my income taxes on time. All I had to do was provide a bank account number for the transfer.......I declined.

There are numerous telephone and email scams in which individuals claim to be employees of the Treasury Department. These scammers often state that they are from the “Department of Legal Affairs,” offer grant money in exchange for you wiring a small payment, or threaten to arrest you within a short period of time unless payment is made. Do not provide personal information or payment to these individuals.  Their actions are crimes under Titles 18 and 31 of the United States Code, and the Treasury Office of Inspector General is working to stop them.

If they claim to be from Treasury, report  it to [email protected] with a description.  If it was a phone contact, include:
the exact date and time that you received the call(s)
the phone number of the caller
the geographic location and time zone where you received the call
a description of the communication.

If they claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or it is about taxes, report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at:

The caller with a heavy accent called from the united states treasury and told me I was going to get a $8000 grant free and clear with no pay back no fees for being a good citizen with no felonies in the last 6 months no bankruptcies. I told him I had no bank account so he told me to call me Travis smith at 512-692-7951 with an id# mk161. The grant and treasury dept. Of Austin Texas. Big SCAM!!!! DONT FALL FOR THIS CRIMINAL INJUSTICE AND STUPIDITY!!!

This person with middle eastern accent told me that I was getting a tax refund from the government and wanted my account number. I declined so now they hung up on me and wont answer theit phone.
