An Indian named "Edward" called me from this number. Gave me a confirmation number and said that I was to received an $8,500 grant from "the government". I was asked how I would use this money. I said "research". That apparently was satisfactory. :D I was given a second number to call back to pay a $250 fee. 512-717-8949

No, this is an Advance Fee Scam. In order to get your "Grant money", you have to go send them a Western Union Green Dot card or some I-Tunes or some such untraceable money transfer, that is a "shipping fee" or other BS. There is NO Grant and they will have your money. Sometimes they will call you back for other fees. This is a very old scam, but it fools people all the time.
