Who called from 5129007849

My experience is the same as others here.  The caller sounded like an older man and said his name was John Jansen.  He knew my boss' name and said he wanted to speak with him re. business interest.  The caller did not leave a company name, only the call back number 512-900-7849.  Needless to say we will NOT be calling him.

received the same type of message.  Seeing all of these comments leads me to believe that it's a telemarketer and we will not be returning the call.

Got a very similar call from an older man named "John Jansen" with the callback number of 512-900-7849. Reason for calling was a private "business interest" he wanted to discuss with my boss. He sounded very comfortable, knew my boss's name and almost sounded like he knew him. Wouldn't provide a business name or any information. SCAM!!!

Very weird.  This John Jansen guy cold calls quite a few people.  Guy using the same name, number, and old-guy voice as described above called me today.  Some googling revealed that 512 is a Texas number, and his name + Texas led to a LinkedIn profile, and resulting website: http://www.thesearchfirm.com/john-jansen/.

His firm is a staffing company.  While he told me (and others it appears) that he has no email address, it's listed on his site as [email protected], so drop him a line.  Also, no need to use the callback number he gives.  His office number is (281) 494-9300.

I talked to this guy today, but he called from a slightly different number (512-817-3240). He said that he was working for a company known as "General Equity" ... a "merger and acquisitions business" ... his words. He wanted to talk the owner of the company about an exit strategy. I asked whether he represented a party interested in buying the business, and he said no, but that his company offered informational seminars to educate owners on the process of selling their business "well in advance" of a foreseeable exit. He also said that these seminars often result in owners returning to them when they're ready to sell, at which point his company is often asked to facilitate the sale. Just shedding a little light on this guy's apparent M.O. ...FWIW.
