Just received a call at 6:28 PM, PST, from a man named "Ben" with an Indian accent who said he was calling from Windows Techical Department because it was determined that my Lap Top contained several viruses.
He provided instructions to make some a administrator setting changes to solve the problem (which I did not make)
At that point I told him I would call back in 20 minutes, due to an emergency matter. He instructed me to call 888-347-6356.
Called me on friday 8-22-14 at about 12:00 noon. Said he was from Windows operating support. Had an east indian like accent. Called back from two other numbers also, 752-425-3652, and 913-555-0172. He wanted me to get online to do some work on my lap top. is this a legitimate call ?
Educational post:
You may have been exposed to scam #3, as described here:
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts_rev.html
Remember to return here, to 800notes.com, after you look at any of the information at that site, either to post more information, or to let us know you avoided the scam, or to read any further information about that number that others may post.
I received a call from 513 555 0137 on 02/07/2015 (can't believe the number is still around after this was first posted almost a year ago o.0). He has an east Indian accent. He started by saying "I am from windows.." I cut him off at that point and immediately told him this was a scam, windows DOES NOT make unsolicited calls to ANYONE . He began to argue with me and said that he needed me to confirm my windows ID number (I also don't have windows at all, I use linux exclusively). I repeated that I thought it was a scam (I like to get to the point where the scammer gives up lol) and that there was no way I was going to give him any information. He then proceded to tell me that he already had my windows ID number and began rattling off a bogus ID number, to somehow confirm he was legit, that wasn't even the correct amount of digits long. I told him that that number was incorrect ...3-4 times (he pretended not to hear me while he stammered to find a way turn the call around in his favor). He fumbled around a bit and hung up.
Do not trust this guy, he's kinda tricky and someone could be fooled by him if they weren't careful. The phone ID says Dir. Assist. As the original poster confirmed it is a number in Ohio (says so on caller ID) and is from the Cincinati area, including Forest Park, Hamilton, Lebanon, West Chester, Mason, Middletown, Norwood, Oxford, Harrison, Cleves, Miamitown and Trenton. Don't give him anything. I recommend hanging up immediately when called as you should do with anyone calling from any sort of "microsoft blah blah blah" or "computer assisting blah blah blah" or "windows blah blah blah." I hope this helps anyone. This is a confirmed scam number.
This guy with Indian begin to argue with after I told him nicely I wasnt interested and take my name and number off his calling list. He said that he can't do it unless I give him $5000! I told him when I hit the lotto he can have it and hung up. Very cocky and bullying type conversation. He definetly is a con and is a SCAM
