My grandmother received a call stating the I was in Quebec, in jail and needed $2500 for bail. The gal calling was upset and instructed my grandmother to send the money via Western Union. She provided my grandmother with the telephone number, reference number, police offier's name, judge's name, etc.
Thank goodness my grandma phoned me directly to find out the truth.
My Grandmother got a call from the number as well. Stated I was in Quebec, had too many drinks and got into an accident. They requested a Moneygram from Wal Mart in the amount of $4800. U.S., to bail me out. Luckily I got a hold of my dad after he submitted the moneygram and he was able to cancel it. Money was to be sent to St. Jerome, Quebec to a Jason Acmore. I just wonder how many people out there didn't catch it in time and don't know where to report this kind of thing.
Got a call supposed to be from our Grandson saying he got a DUI in Mexico as well as a speeding ticket and the car was impounded. AND he would pay us back, that he had the money when he got back. Said he needed $3500 for them to release him and the car. He doesn't drive! He would not be on a vacation to Mexico. Then a supposed lawyer from the American Embassy called with a hard sell. This was also a 514 area code number.
