Received a call from this number: company named "Business Media". We apparently had a four month trial and she wanted to know if we wanted to continue. I said no and she said that there was an outstanding bill to pay. I asked for more clarification and she said she'd phone back next week.
Amy from "Business Media" called because they wanted to send me an invoice for "online advertising". I was very confused as we don't pay for any online advertising. She wanted to confirm my billing information.
I called her on the scam and asked her if she even realized that she was working for a scam company. She didn't realize that those she was calling never requested the advertising and admitted that no one questioned the reason for the call and gladly confirmed billing information. She claimed she was not with "Business Media" but worked for a call center.
So don't confirm details with this company - they are trying to send out invoices in the hopes that their name etc is so generic that someone just passes the invoice along to be paid, rather than challenging it.
Same as above. Got the call this morning and they had an old owner name on file who allegedly authorized internet ad long after he left the business! I did not give them any billing information and asked why a business would call before invoicing at which point I was told 'in case there is a problem.' I called her on it saying that there obviously is a problem as we did not authorize any advertising with them and requested to speak to a manager. She did some song and dance about why I could not speak with a manager at that particular time and I told her there was no point in sending an invoice as it would not be paid. I called the number back that came up on caller id and it said '411 business media.' I didn't leave a message.
If one call wasn't enough they actually had the nerve to call again today...and ask for the same person who has not owned this business for several years! Morons. I told them if they sent an invoice I would immediately turn it over to the RCMP. I then called the number that came up on a call display and actually got a live person. I demanded to speak with a manager and she said she was one...odd that a manager actually answered the phone but I spoke with her briefly before she hung up on me. (I was quite upset and not very patient). I told her that the company she works for is despicable and this is definitely a scam as no one here has ever authorized anything through their company. She told me there has only ever been one complaint about them at which point I advised that she obviously does not research the telephone number as there are many. This page is only one of several pages. The company name appears to have changed once or twice but the pretense is the same.
