A guy called from this number claiming he was an officer at the U.S. Embassy in Peru, and he said my son-in-law needed 2500 dollars for bail -- he asked for the money to be wired using Western Union. I told him I wanted to speak to my son-in-law, and he put someone else on the phone claiming to be him. I asked him what my name was, and he fumbled for a bit and then gave me my name, which I suppose he found on a list. Total scam.
Said he was son in jail calling from us embassy needed 2500.00 to get out of jail. Called back admitted was a scam but he already raised enough money for christmas

Same scam as described in two other messages. On morning of 12/16, person claiming to be (and sounding like) family friend called, said he was in the US embassy in Cusco, Peru, needed $2500 wired immediately to him in Peru. He handed phone to "Sgt Sam Roberts" who gave me directions to wire funds to friend in Peru via Western Union. I called the number back to verify. Man answered "US Embassy", I ask for Sgt. Roberts", who came on the line. When I called number again this morning (12/17) I get a recording in French which sounds like a Montreal boutique.
My mother,87 years old got the call from Sam Roberts claiming to have her grandson in jail and needed $2500 to bail him out. The alleged grandson was put on the phone, My mom was very scared and did not ask any pertinent questions to verify the identity of her grandson. She sent the money via Western Union. A followup call from Roberts claimed that her son was found innocent and the $2500 would be sent back to her. However, to clear customs he would need $2800. She also sent that amount. When I found out about the scam I checked the internet and discovered it was an ongoing scam. I filed an online complaint with Ic3.gov. an FBI electronics crime investigative arm. I also talked to a local special agent with the FBI. If enough people file complaints, the monetary threshold is reached, full action will be taken by the FBI. Kind of like a class action case. Since the return phone number is to a design company in Montreal, it is advised to file complaints with the RCMP.They are animals and do not mess around. That is to say they are an elite law enforcement agency that take this kind of stuff seriously
