My father -in-law got the exact same call (he's 90) and if our son (the supposed victim) hadn't stopped by he would have wired the $$$ ($3300)......how can we catch these [***]?
a caller impersonating my grandson, claiming to have strept throat, laid a story on me about a friend dying at Niagra Falls and he went to the services. a friend picked him up from the airport and they got stopped by the police. they supposedly found cocaine in his car and were both arrested.
the officer called me back to "verify" the story and told me he didn't think that my grandson was involved but because he was in the car he was being charged as an accomplice. he needed $2900. for bail and I should go to the american express at rite-aid in kingston and wire the money. I stared questioning him too much and he disconnected me. I didn't call back though I have a 'badge' and a 'case' number, which I'm sure are phony also. I looked up the town of "River Falls, Ontario." and found a story from a Miss. Diane Armstrong that was nearly word for word of my experience.
