This person called gramma telling her that her grandson was in a car accident and locked up for a DUI in Canada, requesting money for release. Total scam and they deserve what they have coming for preying on old people.
Scam! Called an elderly woman in the United States to say that her brother had been in an accident in Ontario and needed money wired to cover damage to rental car. Total scam -- hope they are caught.

My mother got a phone call from a voice saying, "Hi Grandma, it's your favorite Grandson!" She said, "Oh, is this John? You sound terrible."
"I have a cold." I got in a car accident in Niagara Falls; they said I was DUI, but I'm just loaded up on cough medicine. I have a pro-bono lawyer who will call you to help me out of this situation. I didn't want to call Mom and Dad."
The caller ID'd the 'lawyer' as Robert Pierce.
Sure enough, Robert Pierce called. Mom said she wouldn't talk with him, and he should call her daughter (he didn't). But just in case her daughter wanted to call him, she asked for his phone #, and he gave it to her! 514-560-6410
