My mother got hit with this one, too. The phone number is a cell phone in Montreal. They even had her "grandson" speak to her, and the voice was a pretty good match. "He" was insistent that my mom tell NO ONE. After wiring $5600 to a "bondsman", and being asked for another $5600 for the impound of the rental car -- Mom got suspicious and called me.
The "bail bondsman" was Adam King, 471 Carson Ave, Quebec City, Quebec. They had Mom go to Walmart for the wire, so there isn't even the protection of it being a bank wire. I hope this helps others avoid this pitfall.
This is a cell phone in Montreal. It is related to the Grandma Scam (google) and perhaps others. They get concerned grandparents to wire money to Canada to rescue their grandson who is supposedly in trouble. My Mother was "called" by "Police Seargent Eric Matthews", and was asked to wire bail money to "Adam King 471 Carson Ave, Quebec City, Quebec" If you get a call from this number to help your grandson -- call your grandson at his home first. Don't send money without contacting someone else in your family, or the police.
My grandmother received the same type of call from "Hudson Holding" 1-514-568-5650.He was claiming to be "Sgt. Brower" from Canada wanting $5,600.00 for bail. When I called "Sgt.Brower" back and confronted him on his scam he got very vulgare, and we got in a shouting match. If I ever get my hands on these FU@@ING A@@HOLES they will be sorry.
