Just got my call. Knew immediately it had to be a scam. I had a woman who spoke perfect English. Thanks for sharing Everybody. Difficult to know these days what is real and what is not, eh?!
Got call today a message was left on my voicemail stating this is a final notice from the IRS and they are filing a lawsuit against me and to get more info plesae call back on our department number 515-443-7425.
I just got the same call from 5154437425 from a guy with an Indian accent. He said his name was Officer Eric Johnson, badge number 101013. I've never been audited in my life and always pay my taxes. He said I had been audited for taxes from 2008-2013 and now owe $6296.00 due to miscalculations. I would have to go in person to pay if I wanted to file out of the courts or I could hire a criminal attorney. He threatened me with an arrest from federal authorities in 45 minutes if I didn't choose what I was going to do. When I said I wanted to first confirm his identity, he gave me the IRS phone number (800)829-1040...well, being tax season good luck getting through to anyone at the IRS. The line is very busy. It's no wonder this Eric Johnson told me I would have to call him back within 15 minutes or else the arrest warrant would be issued. This time of year, it is impossible to reach the IRS that quickly. My local police dept told me to call 9-1-1 if anyone claiming to be the IRS came to arrest me since the IRS never calls you. I filed a report with the US Treasury.
OMG. I just got the same call and my heart sunk. But then I did the search on the Internet. It is out of Des Moines IA, a cell number (which the IRS would never use), and wanted me to call back on the same number that the ROBOT just left. That made no sense at all since they could have been live on that same phone when they called me. I am filing a complaint with the US Gov't too... I'm also notifying my family members. This is very scary.
