A man with a Middle-Eastern accent phoned, saying he's from Microsoft and wants to refund my money. I was NEARLY a victim of a scam just like that just this past autumn. When I refused to go get a money order, he wiped out my computer. Previously, I DID allow him access to it, since my desktop generally asks whether or not I want to report w/e (minor) error to (Microsoft, I'm guessing). I usually click "yes" and, I therefore thought the call was in response to those (again, MINOR) errors. I'll tell u this, they must have quite the operation going on. Thankfully, I thought fast and we didn't lose money (with the exception of what we paid to have my computer repaired. U can bet ur bottom dollar I won't be giving out ANY info online again. Period. And I do NOT answer phone calls with no caller ID.

Oh, yeah... He went to the Moneygram site and 'filled out' the form there, erased it REALLY quickly, along with the email id gotten from Moneygram. Thankfully, I also had my email open on my iPhone and was able to actually READ the form and what he'd filled out. I would have been responsible to pay Moneygram $500! The 'refund' was supposed to be over $200 but less than $300. I took a screenshot of the email, which had the processing number on it. I hung up with him, called both, Moneygram AND my bank right away. Although embarrassed, I told the nice lady what had just transpired and that was that, till he wiped my computer clean of pictures, folders, everything! I'm one of the more fortunate ones, I know.
Bottom line:
• Don't answer the call of someone u don't know or whose name u don't recognize.
• Don't answer calls if the name and/or number are "unknown" or simply not there, or if it appears to be an error.
• Don't EVER give out your address, email address, employment address, or ANY financial OR bank information. Ever! Not even the NAME of your bank.
If it SEEMS too good to be true, it IS too good to be true.
Nobody wins a lottery or contest without having entered in it. Remember, you really DO have to "be in it to win it".

Yep. Ur certainly correct there. And if it's truly a business call, they'll leave a message. Before I stopped answering the phone, I'd been telling them, "Good. If ur  giving me a 'refund', mail it to me!"
When he said he's from Microsoft, I said, "no ur not. This is a scam." Then I recited for him that old adage, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me TWICE, shame on me. You'll NOT try to scam me again!" Then I'd hang up. Like u, tho, I've stopped answering the phone unless it's someone in my family or another number I recognize. Besides, ppl must remember that most businesses don't give refunds without a fight, most of the time. That's just bad business that will have them not making as much of a profit as they'd like. Lol

Sometimes, this scam will show up as Cold Spring Harbor.
