My experience was the same as others, but today they did leave a message (generally they do not). I don't press either 3 or 1. I once pressed 3 to stop the calls and they continue to come. I do not have a mortgage, so don't know how they think they are going to lower my rate!
Received call on our home phone in California on 13-July-2012. No msg left on ans machine. Called this number back and recorded voice said that I have received a telemarketing call, and if I wanted to put my number on Their do not call list, I had to press 1, then enter my 10 digit phone number. I did this and the auto voice then said thank you for your call and that our number would be removed within 72 hours.
Our number is already on the federal Do Not Call list, which these scammers totally disregard, otherwise we would not have received this telemarketing call in the first place!
I got a simialr message 7/18/2012...
Something about your credit card and to Press 1 for info to reduce rates.
I am on the NDNC list... considering how many of these calls I have received in the past month or so, I'd say the program is not working
