Believed I am being scammed by this person also on Craigslist -- claims they sent money order - in error - $800 more than the item costs and asked that I send back the balance of the money sent via Western Union! I offered to return the money order (which I have not received yet) - asked for their name and address - their reply was: "cash the money order, deduct for the item and send them the balance ($800+) via Western Union"! Still no name or address to ship the item they bought!! Unbelievable.
That is biggest scam ever. The money order will clear your account and the bank will detect it later and take that money back, you Are then left responsible.
HIM: Large Antique Oil Painting - $90 Item still available for sale?
ME: Yes.
HIM: I'l be paying via money order. If you provide me with your name and mailing address payment will be mailed to you
ME: Why? Where r u located?
HIM: I'm not available at the moment, taking care of some other business. I line and own my business in PA though I'm at a party right now. I will call u tomorrow All i need is your mailing address and name you want payment made out to, i'll facilitate payment to you
HIM:Or if you prefer tomorrow its ok. Do enjoy your party
ME: Good morning I will be going to the gym shortly. Please explain why u want to send money order ? R u asking me to hold it for u? If so, when would u pick it up. It sounds suspicious to me that u would want to send a money order to a stranger for $90. Don't u think?
When I first posted an item on Craigslist, in a matter of seconds this e-mail came in. The question is asked "...is this item still 4 sale". I answered. Yes. Then the next reply: I need your full name and address. Am paying by Money Order. Am adding $50 for keeping it in my favor." I was suspicious! Who does that! Usually people are looking to pay less, not more. Anyway, I replied: "cash only". After that heard nothing more. I recently re-posted the same item. Again in seconds after the posting, the same message came again. I was tempted to call but I know it's a scammer. So beware! The bad thing is that the first number that was used is different from the one I received the second time. However, the message is the same.
