Thanks for this info; I got this call at 9:40AM today. Knew it was some sort of scam, so didn't answer it; will now BLOCK. Boy, they've been hitting this IRS Scam HARD lately. I'd say this is the fourth or fifth call in the last 10 days or so from just this kind of scam. (We got our tax REFUND, so its highly doubtful we owe anything to the IRS!) One time when we were not at home a garbled recording of a male with an Indian accent was left. The recording said, "This message is intended to contact you." HILARIOUS! Reminds me of the old Lily Tomlin skit where she was pretending to be an AT&T operator and said, "Is this the party to whom I am speaking?"
Of course they never specifically ask for a NAME at the number they are calling nor identify which "IRS" office they are calling out of; and they would NOT use cell phones if they were! We got this same call two days ago from "SANDISFIELD, MA" (413-258-7194) which is a sleepy little town in the Berkshires; there is NO IRS office there! I doubt there is one in Manhasset, NY, either. Besides, the IRS does not call without sending written communication first by US Mail. And they NEVER use text messages or emails. This number comes up as a CELL PHONE on numerous sites when you google it.
Oh, and 25 minutes later we got a call from "HANSEN, MA" at 339-244-1110 which is also a cell phone. Haven't looked that one up yet, but KNOW its a scam.
Both these calls were 'new', as yet unBLOCKED numbers; soon to be!

Call Type: SCAMMERS/THIEVES PHISHING for CREDIT CARD #s and PERSONAL ID INFO
yes I ignored it and let it go to voice mail ...it was some indian sounding guy claiming to be the IRS and if I ignored the call I'd go to jail. I called back later on after a few beers (and I was at home) and told them come get me I'm waiting LOL My advice to anyone that gets a call from these a-holes is SCREW with them hard. Call the number repeatedly at your leisure and screw with them.
