I received a message to return a call to the IRS at this number regarding a criminal charge. I spoke to someone at great length during which time the tried to scare me with threats of immediate arrest, 5 years in prison, seizure of assets, etc. When i questioned why this was the first i was hearing of it, i was told they had attempted to serve me three times at my former address. I believe they were trying to steer me towards giving them a credit card for this amount i supposedly owed, but as soon as i started voicing my suspicions, they quickly got off the phone.
Exactly the same message, verbatim: "I am officer Nicky Johnson from the Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my division is 516-874-7475. I repeat it's 516-874-7475. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Goodbye and take care." I have informed the sheriff's department. There will be a write up in our local paper warning residents of the scam.
