My message from this number had to to with an Active Advantage membership through Active.com. Through the Active Advantage program ($60 annual), you are also entitled to discounts at recreational camping sites, in addition to discounts at endurance events (running, biking, etc). I believe this is a legit number because they were returning my call about a question I had. It may be that those park reservations have to go through Active.com to get the discounts? Anyway, this is a legit number, which in my case, was from Active.com. Interesting how this number is used by so many different services.
Got a call from Corge??? Sorry, but the guy was mumbling. He claimed to be calling regarding my recent charge for a Parks of GA Friends Membership. Red flag #1: He has the correct name all screwed up. Anyhow, he wanted me to call back and give him the serial # for my credit card so we can get help from processing to run my credit card. Sorry, but my membership charge went through 2 months ago and you aren't from the real organization, or you would know their name. He left a valid phone number for GA State Parks tech support in his message. I guess he thinks I'm too stupid to check caller ID.
Got a recorded message from this number -- sounded like a 16-year-old female's voice -- and was very poor audio quality. She claimed to be from what sounded like the "Georgia State Parks Resource Center", announcing that overnight campground reservations could now be made 13 months in advance and slurred out an inaudible web address for booking purposes.
Lady called today and said that my check payment for my reservation was being mailed back because "wrong date" was on the check. Insisted that I pay over the phone today. I stated I would make the payment online when I received the checks back and she insisted that it was a secure connection and that I was not aloud to make a payment online. Said I would lose my reservation if I did not comply. I don't give out CC numbers over the phone. FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD. I called back the reservations dept. and they said I was aloud to make payments online so do not give into this tactic.
I made campground reservation on what was supposed to be a secured site with rec.gov. The caller here was phishing and claimed to obtain my info from reserve America. And could fix my reservation for upcoming trip if I gave cc to pay today.
