To answer the question, they do indeed make calls, but usually the month before Christmas and in March, right before the "policemen's society ball". They do use a robodialer to place the calls, BUT they will talk to you in person. They do not use a robo-speaker to detect your voice like a scammer does. They ask for numbers so they can place it into a "voluntary" phone number bank for the future project calls. Usually, it's to donate to the 500 club, a fund for families of fallen officers. They ask for your "pledge" then MAIL the packet to you to finish up. They do not ask for money over the phone. We have donated to the 500 Club yearly. So I do know this caller to be a scammer....................It's not the way they do things at all.
CID read Arizona Fratern, assume it's another scammer pretending to be the Fraternal Order of Police. Didn't answer, just connected then immediately disconnected. By the way, I've been getting so many "Fraternal Order of Police" calls, that I sent an email to the real Arizona Fraternal Order of Police (I Googled their website) to ask them, just out of curiosity, if they ever made random telephone calls to solicit funds. I explained that I've received many calls from obvious scammers and just wanted to know if any of them might be legitimate. I received a return email saying that they would need my phone number in order to check it out and asking me to reply to their email with my phone number. Say WHAT??!! I didn't ask them to check anything out, I just asked them if they made telephone solicitations. Simple yes or no question, right? And they need my phone number??!! Gee, I wonder why? Guess that means they probably DO make telephone solicitations? I didn't bother to reply to their email.
Called on my cell phone. Didn't say Fraternal Order of Police, but sounded like a similar police scam. I hung up before they had a chance to finish. Sounded like it might be one of those high tec robotic calls that try to make you think it is a live person.
