Yep classic scam. The paypal would have been fake, and you would have been out the money you sent to the "shipper" which was probably him sitting in a hut in Nigeria. Who buys a car without looking at it and test driving it? They are always off somewhere and can't see it, but for some reason they always want to take your word that the car is in perfect shape. good thing you didn't send that money. Only meet with people, take cash only, and meet at a safe location. many police depts will allow you to use their property to conduct the transaction.
Placed and ad on Craig's list to sell a car. With in hours got a text wanting to buy site unseen and wanted to pay through paypal as this was the safest and secure way for both of us. Also he has a shipper that would come pick it up since his job had him out of the country, gave me the name Frank Bayer
Within 10 minutes of posting a Craigslist ad to sell a truck, he contacted me via text wanting to pay through PayPal and have a mover come pick up the truck. Wanted to purchase without ever seeing the vehicle, due to being a petroleum engineer and being offshore. Used the name Frank Bayer. Offered to pay full price. Never called, only texted, even when directly requested to "call me." Language was suspicious (i.e. "will await your reply."). We ended the transaction. Very suspicious.
I put an add for the sale of my car and within minutes he texted me from (630-812-1537) that he was interested in my car and wanted to pay the full amount. He texted me his name as Frank Bayer and inquired about the car if it was in good condition. He said he worked on an oil rig as a Petroleum Engineer and that is why he would not be able to look at the car personally.
He mentioned that he will pay through PayPal because that was the safest way of transferring the funds. Since I did have a PayPal account I asked my wife to set up the PayPal account, which she did. He said his guy will pick up the car and toe it away, but at the last minute he texted me that the pick up guy will need to be paid right away. He said he will add the $650 to the PayPal account for the car and I should pay to the pick up guy, before he will show up. I asked him to call me and he never did, he would only text. Then he sends me an email with some money gram site address and wants me to send the $650 there. He also wanted to know the password to our account, we became very suspicious with the two request and told him to get lost. My wife reported him to PayPal.
