Asked for last four digits of ssn, did not identify themselves.  I told them goodbye--didn't give them info!

Called asking for the last four of your SSN, I refused to give the numbers they hang up

Called but left no message the same day I received a letter from them in the mail. Fairly certain this is regarding an old debt that is past the statute of limitations for collections.

called me, asked for me by first and last name. Asked what their business was, said they were from a law firm regarding debt, and i hung up.

Its Bursage & Associates of Tucson AZ, low scum bill collectors on a item over fifteen years old.
Even funnier was that when I told them my father has been dead for six years, they started to say I should pay this bill.  I told them they could not require that of me. I later checked with my other brother who was the executor and he showed he paid the bill from our fathers estate.
What low life's!
