I got a call from the same number today, and the guy (who had my last four) identified himself as a representative of Anderson Law -- fool that I am, I let my last four slip a couple months ago to someone who doesn't need it (this was in connection with a financial transaction that never took place). Theoretically, the guy tried to extort money from me, and I'm about to call my sheriff's department to report it.
The gentleman on the other end suggested I'm guilty of check fraud (which is interesting, since my checking account is a merchant entity only and isn't something his reported client would access). He had the last four of my SS# and said I'd be investigated/arrested by my county's sheriff's department if I didn't pay him a certain balance. I'm calling my sheriff right now to inquire.
I got a call continuously from these people. They, too, said they were from Anderson Law. The guy who called me gave me his name as Pat Cooper with a VERY thick accent. Like you guys, I stupidly let my information slip and they were telling me I applied for a loan in which the company never got their money back. They said they're suing me so I guess I'll wait and see what this whole thing is about. They did read me my SSN too. I'm doing a little more research, maybe even call the Better Business Bureau as well.
