PLEASE. What can be done to stop these calls. I am on the do-not-call list. I also asked this company in the past not to bother me any more. Now they are calling under this number. What can be done about this?
They call here daily and say nothing when I answer, I called it back and a recording comes on thanking me for calling back and says to press 1 to be removed from their calling list, so I did, said to wat 72 hours for my name to be removed, we'll see.
The do not call list is run by the Federal Trade Commission. On the do not call website http://www.donotcall.gov there is a phone number of 888-382-1222
You can call this number to report a business that keeps calling you, and one that ignores the fact your number is on the do not call list.
You also use this number to check that you are already on the list. Call from the phone you want to check and follow the instructions.
Apparently businesses that are in your state can call your phone even if your phone is listed on the do not call list, unles you tell them not to call. It is only calls across state lines that must honor the list.
I suspect scammers who ignore the list make so much money that they just pay any fines they receive, then continue to ignore the list. However, if there are enough complaints over a long enough period of time, the FTC will do more than just fine.
