Automated lower-your-credit-card-rate scam number. "Please don't hangup..." Claimed to be from American Express account services, and offered to lower the interest rate on all my cards.
I'm blocking all calls from unknown area codes, so I don't get a ringtone interruption when a scammer makes a robo-call.
The problem with the current scam artist robo-calls is that they leave the line open just long enough to trigger a short voicemail recording, which means my phone keeps alerting me ANYWAY until I retrieve the message. This costs me time and money, because voicemail message retrievals are NOT free minutes on my cell plan.
When I do retrieve the scammer's "message" it's just three seconds of dead air. At least I don't have to listen to the pitch. Small consolation.
If you want to screw with them, this is what I do.
