Sorry, people!! But this is neither a scam not fraudulent. I've spent a long on the phone with Verizon Customer Service, concerning this phone number. Now admittedly, this is not really their best idea and the Verizon representative confessed that. The only reason anyone would receive this call, is if you were a new post-paid customer with Verizon. They want to make sure that you establish good credit with them. They also will send you text messages with the same exact information. Both the phone call and the text message will reference an 800 number (18007540961), that dials into Verizon Finance automated payment system.
If you have concerns about this number, do not go into a Verizon Store, call Verizon Customer Service instead. Verizon Customer Service will explain and clarify this with you. In a lot of cases the Verizon Stores are dealers and do not always know all of Verizon's Policies/Procedures, and can give you false information. It is better to deal with the horse itself, instead of its trainer.
A I previously stated, this is not really the best way for Verizon to deal with this, but they do. I really wanted to clarify what some were saying in previous posts. And like I just said, I've spent a lot of time on the phone with Verizon Customer Service inquiring about this number.
the caller said they were Verison credit department I needed a password the last 4 of my social security number
my phone would be turned off in 24 hrs
I went to a local verizon store they said verizon uses a 800 number
because this was a new account and i needed to check on billing policies and balance
verizon gave me answers and peace of mind
This number is a phishing scam saying they are cerizion andtrying to get info to accounts to cause problums like unwanted charges, or bank account info....I have verified with verizion that their calls show as 866-xxx-xxxx
