This number is a scam "fax number" for the "IRS." I received a letter from the "IRS" in the mail and it gave me the option to fax my information to this number. DO NOT FAX, CALL OR SEND ANY INFORMATION TO THIS NUMBER!
The other numbers on the letter I received were legit IRS numbers, however, the sender hopes you will just fax over your information (which includes the taxpayer ID/Employer ID) which is what they really need to file returns in your name. The letter had my social security number, name and address on it...I verified with the IRS that my identity has indeed been stolen. What stopped them from completing a return in my name is the employer ID/taxpayer ID that they did not have.
If you faxed your information over to this fax number, call the IRS fraud department RIGHT AWAY! Go to IRS.GOV and call the fraud number on that website, do not trust emails, faxes, phone calls, letters, etc. Calling the number yourself from the official IRS.GOV website will ensure that you speak with an IRS agent.
