They called our unlisted landline number at 5:50 PM PDT on 9 September 2016. The caller ID said "Out of Area". I answered because I was expecting a call. (I had recently left a message for a business and expected a return call that might come from a different phone number.)
The person on the other end of the line gave his name (I forget) from the "Fraternal Order of Police" and informed me that he was calling on a recorded line. He tried to sound very "law enforcement" and may have been a law enforcement officer. Who knows? I have looked into similar organizations in the past, and believe that they use funds for themselves (e.g., big salaries and bonuses for the people running the organization and its fundraising operations) and to apply political political pressure on city governments.
I told him that we are on the Do Not Call list and it is illegal for him to be calling us. Then I hung up. I will report them to DoNotCall.gov.
A call from this Fresno VOIP arrived today. When the call rolled to voice mail, the caller left no message, just dead space. This is typical of robocallers (unlawful telemarketers) who use automated dialers to place calls. If a live person answers, the dialer transfers the call to a live illegal telemarketer. Slick, eh?
The caller's number is eerily similar to (559) 473-2683, which last called my number on Aug. 25. That number has been reported by many people and is linked to a scam charity. Could (559) 473-2679 be another number of this scam charity? Inquiring minds want to know.
