Reading these responses has me concerned. I received a letter from the IRS office in Fresno yesterday giving me a status update of their review of an amended income tax return that I filed earlier this year. Today I got a call on my cell phone from this number, which did not give any Caller ID, so I did not answer and they did not leave a message. I didn't give it much further thought until looking up the number here and saw that they were claiming to be from the IRS. I am concerned because there was no Caller ID, and they did not leave a message. Oh, and in response to a previous poster, several weeks ago when I called IRS at their 800 number and finally got a representative on the line, she did identify herself with an "ID#", not a "Badge #".
Slim thank you. I got screwed. But she knew so much information. Plus she had my Accountants phone number and called him. He asked her some questions. First she said she was from the IRS and gave an ID#. He said in 30 years he never heard it called an ID#. It is called a badge #. He asked for a number to call her back at the IRS and then she hung up. Mean while she got my Birthday and address from me.
What a lesson to learn. Now I have to purchase some protection from Lifelock.
Just received a call from this number but ignored it. Then I stumble to this web page. As far as I know the IRS does not make outbound calls at all. Returned the call just to get a "disconnected" message.
I just received a call from this number on my cell and landline. The caller did not leave a voicemail and the Caller ID was IRS. I've dealt with the IRS in the past and they would always leave a message. Very bizarre to get a call from this number on the 16th of April.
