I've gotten a call from this number - or numbers just like it using the same exact message on their robocall - about once a week for the last year or so. I have never heard a live human on the other end. They are a blight that refuses to go away.
Caller used very vulgar language when I demanded to know what credit card or credit card company he was calling from. Theb scam was it was "about my credit card and theyb were gioing to lower my rates."
Robo-call saying to press "9". I pressed 9 and got connected to a guy trying to "lower my interest rate" on my credit card. When I asked what company he represented, he said "Financial Services" in Orlando. When I asked for the street address, he refused and asked me why I was asking him for that information.
Please, don't give any information to these con-artists. They will call your credit card company, ask for lower rates (something you can do for yourself), get turned down, and then charge you hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Because they provided a "service," this becomes a civil case, meaning you need to hire a lawyer, costing hundreds and hundreds of dollars, or go to court on your own, to straighten the mess out. There are no police to go arrest them. Your state attorney general may or may not help you; the FTC may or may not fine them for violations of the DNC list, for spoofing numbers.
P T Barnum: "There's a sucker born every minute." That's this group's motto. If you fall for this scam, you will have a hard time ever getting that money back.
My mother is 87 and still has a credit card. I told her about this scam because I can picture her falling for it. So, protect the elderly in your family, and don't fall for this yourself.
Lord, what next? I was wondering who I knew in Ohio, especially with such a weird number... It would seem to me, that a scam like this would be interesting to the Ohio Attorney General... I could be wrong about Ohio, but in Connecticut where I live, you have to register your business with the state, and there are laws that govern unethical business activity like this.
It's nothing but a 'boiler room' essentially, but that doesn't mean that someone in gov't can't shut them down! After all, if they're collecting fees from unsophisticated card holders, they're leaving a paper trail, even if it is digital.
