It was a pre-recorded message stating that they were the IRS and that I needed to call back immediately. Of course, it wasn''t. I called back from a different number. When they finally answered, the man who answered was barely understandable. He wanted my phone number. I told him that he should have it. He insisted. I then told him that I knew that he was scamming people out of thousands of dollars. He then began to use every four letter word in the book. I just hung up.
The IRS reminds people that they can know pretty easily when a supposed IRS caller is a fake. Here are five things the scammers often do but the IRS will not do. Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam. The IRS will never:
Call to demand immediate payment, nor will we call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill..
Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
Got the same call...its appears on your phone with no specific city just says United States . Scam scam scam claiming to be IRS. Block them and forget.
Today is 9/27 . I got the same bs call. Called back on my land line and hid my number and let it ring for 45 minutes straight. I can be annoying as well
