I also received a call from this number 571-210-5559 today that I owed back taxes and I was to call and set up payment plan of I will be arrested. Heavy accent. Recording on my voice mail.
Got a call from someone with a foreign accent saying they were the IRS. This call was from Virginia. I have gotten the same call numerous times from a California number. I know it is a scam and it seems very frustrating these call can continue.
Received call stating legal action related to tax fraud. Could barely understand the person talking. Noise in the background sounded like a sweat shop phone business. Gave me a case # and a supposed IRS badge number then asked me if I had a criminal lawyer. Disconnected when I asked for an IRS contact number.
Total scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan.

RS does not file lawsuits. Tax disputes are civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and all contacts are initiated by US mail.
