I've been getting the same call. They're phishing for your personal information by saying they need to "verify it" before "sending you an invoice for your Yellow Pages account." If you say you don't have a Yellow Pages account, they hang up because they know you can't be tricked into giving them your personal information.
Haa, they answered. Said they were Yellow Page advertizing and wanted to check our records
so they are correct and then 'send out an invoice' later.
Ok. ( not yes )
He read back the correct company name and a member of the company.
I corrected him and told him the name of the person is wrong.
Gave him my usual fake owner name.
He never verified the address or what the company does, just the name of the company and contact.
He made the "correction" and asked if we'd like to be listed on the internet search with his company.
I said no, we already have a website.
He said, oh.. ok, thank you, good bye.
Now I'll see how long it takes for the telemarketers to start making calls to "him".
I owned a business for over 10-yrs and after the 1st year, gave out this fake name.
He got free samples in the mail, credit card offers, and salesman walking in the door to speak with him.
All from throwing a name out there, of a man, who doesn't exist.....
After weeks of ignoring these people calling twice a day, every day, I answered the call. It's something about updating your biz info in the yellow pages. I immediately tried to politely stop this lady from talking and tell her to put me on her do not call list (I've been on the fed do not call list since it was created). She hung up on me mid sentence. Tried to call back to finish my request and report her rudeness and got a " this number not in service" recording.

I downloaded a recorder on my smart phone. Called my own fax and recorded the fax connecting sound.
This call came through and assumed by the number it was a telemarketer.
Grabbed my cell and answered the land line. Started playing the fax sound into the reciever until I heard the call disconnect.
At least I am entertained and not annoyed!!
this # has been calling at least once a day for a few weeks a** bites, nothing is left on the answering machine. We don't pick up unrecognized calls so your site is very useful.
