It's funny how I try and call the number back that called me and all of a sudden it's out if service definitely sounds like a scam to me as well and no you can't be put in jail it's a scare tactic used by rouge collectors as stated above so Melissa is full of it and when she called me she was calling out of El Cajon California so beware everyone just cause they have some information on you doesn't mean it's always valid I just got off the phone with the FTC and they stated a debt collector can not put you in prison for any debt the United States of America does not have a debtors jail
Left a message on my grandmothers phone saying a felony warrant had been issued for my arrest? I know I have not commited any felonies lately. Is this a scam? Im so terrified that someone is going to come take me away from my babies.
Absolutely! Debts are civil and not criminal matters.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
first of all neither myself or my firm is a scam and my office is NOT BASED OUT OF INDIA so i dont know who or what firm you are refering too and to the fellow persons above by no means am i a scam or a ripoff artists i am a legit person working for a legit mediatation firm and if you didnt have any outstanding debts that are pursable i woldnt be contacting you so maybe you should consider what debts you have and make good on them so you dont hve to go threw the legal process regarding wage garnishments or etc -- thank you for your invalid opinons !!
