If everyone would just not answer, would it stop these calls? They seem to be non-ending. One even left a threatening call on our answering machine saying there was a warrant for our arrest and they were coming to get us. There is no warranty and the IRS is not after us. But for anyone who did have something on their record they might fall for this sort of thing. Please make them go away.
Caller claimed to be from the US Internal Revenue Service. Caller said I owed back taxes and that I was being given one last chance to pay before I was arrested.
Folks, I am a Certified Public Accountant and former employee of the IRS. I do not owe any back taxes. But if I did, purchasing a Green Dot card and paying a stranger over the phone is not the proper route to take.
The real IRS sends notices via the US Postal Service and offers arbitration for delinquent taxes, not arrest.
The callers are obviously criminals trying to steal your money via Green Dot cards.
Please do not fall for this!
The call type is criminal, but there is no drop down box choice for criminals.
Oh, they are criminals, all right. The problem is---they are hiding in overseas boiler rooms, aided and abeited by corrupt and apathetic governments who would just as soon spit in our faces, as far as having them prosecuted and extradited. And, to make matters worse, they are using computers to alter their identities and locations, making them next to impossible to trace. Right now, our government (and with good reason), has bigger fish to fry, than to chase these scammers down. The key to putting them out of business is to educate as many people as possible.
Something with this number called my home phone at 10:33AM. Caller ID reads South Bend IN in place of company name so I did not answer. No message was left.
