Caller ID showed Ardmore, Ok. I didn't answer it as I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. But, I said what the heck. I hit redial & called the number. Nothing happened. Phone on their end had dead silence.
Silence on other end when your call is "answered" means your outgoing call has been blocked. That is precisely what they hear if they call you and you have a call blocker device. Depending on how sophisticated their system is, when you call back, they could log your incoming call as a number for future contacts. In other words, calling back is just as good as answering their call to you. It shows that your number is active.
Don't mean to cast aspersions but calling back is not a good idea. That is if you don't want to bring attention for them to call you back, repeatedly. If you want the attention, then great--your goal accomplished in aces because you will get calls all hours of day and night.
Generally if there is static or electronic sounds in background, they are trying to lure you into answering your phone with "Is someone there?" Again, this signals to them that they have a live one. What they do with that info sometimes involves further calls to you from a ROBO message or even a live human. In other words, they are a leads generator: possibly just for themselves but more likely they are developing lists to be sold to other telemarketers. Bottom line, don't answer incoming unknown calls. And definitely don't call them back!
